ATP FINALS. How Jannik Sinner can qualify for the semifinals if he gets Berrettini’s spot

Jannik Sinner may have still the opportunity to qualify for the semi-finals if he plays in the season's finale.

Jannik Sinner

Jannik Sinner is extremely likely to compete in the current ATP Finals taking the spot of an injured Matteo Berrettini as the first alternate. Matto has still to officially withdraw from the competition, but everything points to the fact that he will take no chances to worsen his abdominal injury.

Therefore, Jannik Sinner is expected to play his first match of the Finals on Tuesday against his dear friend Hubert Hurkacz. It is extremely unlikely that Jannik will qualify for the semi-finals if he plays in Turin. The only way for Jannik Sinner to hope to qualify for the final four is to win both matches against Hurkacz and Daniil Medvedev. Unfortunately for the young Italian a 2-1 score in the round-robin beats a 2-0 record.

The top10 quest

Playing the final will also be very important for Jannik Sinner to end the season in the top 10. He needs only one win to overtake Felix Auger Aliassime.
