This was an exceptional week for Roger Federer that has found a new and highly effective way to play tennis.
Roger is playing a much more aggressive tennis now, he is using a more intelligent back hand, and he attacks at the net in a more composed way. The new Federer now plays every single point to the full with no (or much less) “hollow moments”.
Federer – Berdych 3-6 6-4 6-3
The final wasn’t great from a tennis point of you. Actually the first set was rather horrible from both sides (too many unforced errors. In the second set the tennis level was picking a bit. Roger dropped his service in the 5th game (2-3) to break back immediately and then win the set 6-4.
In the third set Roger was generally superior to Berdych. The Swiss’ tennis was going north and Roger got the decisive break in the 4th game (3-1). The Maestro was in full control till the very end. Match Stats
Federer: Things went my way tonight
Roger “I was happy I was able to use momentum, win that second set, and then it was a tough opening period in the third, wasting the Love-40 game on Tomas’ first service game. Then saving break points myself. Anything could have happened there.
“Things definitely went my way out here tonight, but I have had a lot tougher matches in the last one and a half years, so this is nice to get a lucky break again.”
This is Roger’s 78 title… 1 ahead of John McEnroe!
