The WTA event in Acapulco will take place this week.
The Australian Open runner-up Dominika Cibulkova and Genie Bouchard (alias the “New Sharapova”) are the hot favourite to win the tournament.
Cibulkova
Dominika is not coming from a great period after the Australian Open to lose both ties in the Fed Cup and then to retire in the first round Doha. The Slovakian is looking forward to get back to her best tennis.
Bouchard
Genie is probably struggling with being popular and her tennis went south after reaching the semi-final in Melbourne. Genie crashed out in Doha and she didn’t manage to qualify in Dubai. Acapulco might be a good test to see if she got her focus back.
The other top seeds are Kanepi, Rybarikova, Meusburger, Jovanovsky, Voegele, Zhang.
The possible quarters are
Cibulkova – Jovanovsky
Rybarikova – Zhang
Voegele – Kanepi
Meusburger – Bouchard.
The winner of the tournament will get 280 points and a check of $43.000.
Last year’s winner was Sara Errani that won’t take part to the event this year.
