What a surprise!
World no.26 Alize Cornet beats Serena Williams in straight sets conceding 8 games to the world no.1. Alize won the first match breaking Serena in the 9th game (5-4). In the second set Cornet broke Serena in the very first game, but the American didn’t want to let it go to break back in the 4th game (2-2). After a fierce battle it was Cornet to get the decisive break in the 7th game. Match Stats.
Cornet : I am proud of myself
Alize commented “I’m so excited. I didn’t expect that definitely, and I’m really, really happy and proud of myself. She’s one – or maybe – ‘the’ biggest champion of history, and, wow, just thinking that I beat her today.”
Serena: I didn’t play today
The American was greatly disappointed by the loss “I’m a wee bit embarrassed. She played really well. I just didn’t play today. I tried, though. I don’t think I have made that many errors in a match in I think at least three years, maybe four years.”
