Serena Williams said she wanted to play in Dubai as she was bored training… well, yesterday against Ekaterina Makarova she wasn’t bored at all!
The world no.1 was relly struggling in the opening set to be always behind till she broke Makarova in the 10th game (5-5). The struggle didn’t end up over there since in the tiebreak the American had to save 2 set points before winning the first set.
Clearly disappointed, in the second set Makarova imploded to lose 6-0. Match Stats
Serena: I felt so rusty
Serena was happy to win despite playing not at her best “Today was really difficult for me. I felt so rusty out there and a little frustrated – I’ve been practicing, but I was like, ‘Gosh, this isn’t what I practiced. But I was just really excited to get through that. I was really telling myself to stay positive, because I was making a lot of unforced errors that I don’t normally make, and my serve just wasn’t popping the way it usually does.
“I’m happy for the win, but I’m going to have to play better if I want to do better here.”
Serena will play either Lucie Safarova or Jelena Jankovic in the next round.
