Fed Cup: Team USA humiliated at home against Italy’s B team

Unfortunately the Fed Cup keeps on going without much charm.

Russia is now used to show up with players whose rank is well above the top100 and some other teams are following.

In a rather depressing tie in Cleveland, Italy went with its B team (alias without Sara Errani and Roberta Vinci) and Team USA didn’t manage to do any better without the Williams and Sloane Stephens.

So it was a rather quick and embarrassing 3-1 win for Italy with the following results:

Knapp d. McHale 6-3 3-6 6-1

Giorgi d. Keys 6-2 6-1

Knapp d. Riske 6-3 7-5

Then they played the doubles (death rubber) and Lauren Davis and Alison Riske defeated Nastassja Burnett and Alice Matteucci 6-2 6-3.

Karin Knapp was still rather happy by the result “I said this morning, `If we win we have to jump into the snow. So after, we will all put the jacket on, the scarf on and we will jump in the snow.”

Congratulation to the Italian team, but in truth… it would be nicer to see stronger teams competing for the Fed Cup.. otherwise.. what’s for?
