Parents, early years, coach

Carlos (Carlito) was born the 5 May 2003 in El Palmar, Murcia (Spain) to Carlos Alcaraz Gonzalez and Virginia Garfia and he has 3 siblings: Alvaro (the eldest), Sergio, and Jaime (both younger than him). Carlos started to play tennis when he was just 4 and he was inspired to get on with the sport by his father, who used to be a top40 player in Spain.

Carlos is 1.85 tall (6ft 1) and he is coached by former world no.1 Juan Carlos Ferrero. Carlos turned pro when he was just 15 when he started playing futures and challengers.

Alcaraz has an interesting record since he is one of the few players in tennis history to have never lost in the 1st round of any slam in his debut. in 2021, he lost in the second round in both the Australian Open and Wimbledon and in the 3rd round of the French Open. He has currently reached the quarters at the US Open, where he is about to face Felix Auger Aliassime.

Style

His coach Juan Carlos Ferrero likens Carlos to Roger Federer in terms of aggressiveness:

“It is difficult to compare to Roger Federer, of course, but if I had to say one name, I’m looking for somebody that is very aggressive and is able to do a lot of things on the court, and Roger is the best in these situations. He can play on any surface and can play any type of style,” said the Spaniard.

Obviously, a big difference with Roger Federer is that Carlos Alcaraz Garfia has a double-handed backhand.

Girlfriend

He has been dating fellow tennis player, Maria González Giménez for quite some time.
