Tomic fights hard to down Stakhovsky in 3 sets and reach the Sydney final

Another great year for Bernard Tomic in Sydney.

The Australian reaches a back to back final to be one step away to defend his title.

The semifinal with Stakhovsky was rather tricky. Bernard had a really good start to lead 3-0 and be 1 point away to be 4-0 up. Then the Ukraine found his way back in the match to win the opening set at the tiebreak.

In the second set Tomic managed to get the decisive break only in the 11th game. The duo went head to head in the third set till the 7th game when Sergiy did melt down to be broken twice. Tomic won the semis in 2 hours and 14 minutes.

The final vs. Del Potro

Bernard will try to defend his title against Del Potro. Head to head is 1-0 for the Argentine.

Tomic about the final

The Australian had a couple of thoughts about the final “The way played here, I’m very happy.  is going to be a difficult match. I’ve got to prepare as best as I can. Last time I played he beat me pretty comfortably, 6-3, 6-3. I felt like I had chances in that match. I have to go for my shots and play the way I played in my first round and the quarters to win.”
