Serena and Venus Williams, alongside Sofia Kenin, are going to miss the upcoming WTA1000 in Cincinnati. They are still all expected to play the US Open.
Even if there is no official announcement, it’s not a surprise that Serena and Venus decided not to compete in Cincinnati since they may prefer to spare their body for a deep run at the US Open. Sofia Kenin has been struggling for some time with a foot injury.
There are still no reports if the world no.1 Ashleigh Barty and the world no.2 Naomi Osaka will compete in Cincinnati after they missed playing Montreal this week.
Serena Williams withdrew from Wimbledon because of a leg injury.

Now the world no.20, Serena played her last match on the 29th of June when she had to retire when playing against world no.90 Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the 1st round and the scoreline was 3-3 .
Until now, during this year Serena Williams has achieved a composed 12-5 record. Serena Williams’s most significant performance of the year was reaching the semifinal in Melbourne and at the Australian Open.
Sofia Kenin in 2021
Ranked world no.4 (career-high), the American played her last match on the 30th of June when she lost to world no.79 Madison Brengle 6-2 6-4 in the 2nd round in Wimbledon (draw).
This year Sofia has managed to achieve a composed 11-10 win-loss record.
Serena Williams and Sofia Kenin clashed against each other just once. Their record is 1-0 for Kenin. When they played, Sofia Kenin won 6-2 7-5 in the 3rd round in Paris (French Open) in June 2019.
Venus Williams in 2021
Now ranked no.112, Venus played her last match on the 30th of June when she surrendered to world no.22 Ons Jabeur 7-5 6-0 in the 2nd round in Wimbledon (draw).
This season Venus Williams has a 3-8 match record.
