Rafael Nadal had a rather optimistic reschedule in North America where he decided to try and play 3 consecutive tournaments in Washington, Toronto, in Cincinnati. Rafael Nadal has been struggling for roughly 2 months with a foot injury that apparently affected also his run at the French Open.

Nadal was clearly suffering last week during the ATP 500 in Washington where he lost in the third round to Lloyd Harris. Rafael decided to travel to Toronto still hoping to compete in the local ATP1000. However, he announced his retirement the Tuesday since that he’d noticed that his injury was not improving and he felt not fit to compete.

Rafael Nadal commented:

“Well, I have had this issue for a couple of months, as people know. Yeah, of course is not a happy situation after all the success that I had here in Canada, not be able to play this year after missing a year.

Is a tough one, but that’s how it is today, no? I need to go back and try to find a way to be better again, no? At the end of the day, for me is most important thing is to enjoy playing tennis. Today, with this pain, I am not able to enjoy, and I really don’t believe that I have chances to fight for the things that I really need to fight.”

Will Nadal played US Open?

That right now. How about if Rafa Nadal will be able to play in Cincinnati next week and at the US Open. The Spanish sensation also admitted that he is not sure about his upcoming plans to comment:

“I don’t know [about my schedules]. I gonna check. Just taken my decision. The main thing now is I’m not able to play here, something that I feel bad for it. I really wanted to play here a lot, but now is the moment to take a decision, and that’s, unfortunately, the decision that I took, and probably in the next couple of days we’re gonna know more.”
