Stefanos Tsitsipas didn’t have a fantastic experience at the recent Olympic Games in Tokyo. The Greek champion was expected to conquer at least a medal, but he lost in both singles and mixed doubles in the quarterfinals.

Stefanos Tsitsipas’ fitness coach, Christos Fiotakis, was horrified by his treatment during their stay in Tokyo. Christos said that the overall experience was horrible. Team Greece was terribly treated in all sorts of departments and the organization was dreadful.

This is what he said:

“We stayed 3 people on a 20 sqm carton bed flat. We did not even have TV to watch the Games ! While USA and UK and couple other countries had PlayStations and huge apartments with big windows with private gyms with watt bikes and coffee shop lounges.”

“90% of the organization personnel did not speak English. So such a mess to get things sorted.”

“Laundry was a mess; losing clothes and spending hours in line to sort things
out.”

Christos received also “a special treatment” for being in close contact with a person positive to Coronavirus even if he tested negative 9 times.

He said:

And now I will show you what happened the day we played in the third round against Humbert. At 02:00am they contacted me that I was in close contact on my flight from Frankfurt on July 19. PS: On the same flight there were members from Italy and Germany plus many more athletes. So I was asked to isolate myself since I was in Japan for nine days and I had 9 negative tests. I had to do a PCR test so I could go and see Stefanos’s game and I was told to warm up via video call.

So the PCR took me a long time and it was negative and finally at 13:00 I was told that I was okay to go to the stadium, but by car with an escort and not by bus. So I was not going to coach Stefanos and follow the routine and talk to him before the match. I arrived at 14:00, an hour after the start of the race and I was accompanied by six health workers as if I was and I was like a criminal sitting alone under the hot sun. In addition, I had not eaten because I was in quarantine from 07:00. So they did not let me have any contact with the rest of the team. When the match was over I had to wait for the doubles.”
