Maria Sharapova, the super-admired-beauty-queen, didn’t have a smashing 2013… but money is still good.
The Russian beauty is the most paid female athlete in the world thanks to her sponsorships and the new quirky project she has launched: Sugarpova (the candies).
Maria is travelling the world to promote her image, selling candies and sometimes even sponsor apartments in India and that turned her in an incredible money machine (and her look… helps!)
Maria’s marketing activities around the Sugarpova brand was just brilliant. The Russian (or better… her agent) managed to put all sort of controversies and funny ideas around the brand. The last one was to change her name for the latest US Open to Sugarpova (well… then Maria she didn’t even play in New York).
So CNN Money put Maria in the list of the top ten celebrities that turned into entrepreneurship.
Maria’s wallet is getting bigger and bigger… we just wonder how well focus she could be on tennis. This year she has won “only” 2 tournaments (Indian Wells and Stuttgart) and she fell to a world no.4 rank.
Maria is now trying to recover from an injury to her shoulder that made her miss the second part of the season.
