Jelena is in great form, but the recent tournament in Beijing took its toll.
The entertaining Serbian was seeded no.1 in Osaka, but she won’t be able to compete after being injured in the recent final against Serena at the China Open. Jelena called a medical time out when she was 2-1 up because of a left hip injury. When she was back she couldn’t really compete to lose 6-2 6-2.
Jelena’s retirement caused a bit of a reshuffle with Kristina Mladenovic taking the top spot in the draw.
The other seeds of the tournaments are Sabine Lisicki, Sam Stosur, Flavia Pennetta, Canadian sensation Genie Bouchard, Madison Key, Laura Robson and Monica Puig.
