Rafael Nadal is back to world no.1 after Berdych retires from the semifinal in Beijing

Great news for Rafa’s fans as their hero will be back to world no.1 in a couple of days’ time. The King of Clay had to reach the final in Beijing and that was mission accomplished after the the world no.5 retired from the semifinal.

Rafa at the top

You may say that this wasn’t the way that Rafa wanted to go back to the top spot of the tennis world, and that might be right, but that was the result of an unbelievable tennis season with Rafa winning 10 titles, 2 slams and with a mind blowing 27-0 record on hard courts .

The Match

The match with Berdych started with a couple of exchange of breaks in the first 2 games, then Rafa broke again Berdych to lead 3-2.  After losing the next game Tomas called the physio, but things looked quite …. no good. Berdych retires when he was 2-4 down.

That was a sensible decision, and Rafa is back at the top.

Next the final!

In the final Rafa will play either Novak Djokovic (H2H 22-15 for Rafa) or Richard Gasquet (H2H 11-0 for Rafa).
