Sofia Kenin announces on her social media that she decided to part ways with her father Alex in terms of coaching.
Her father has coached Sofia since the beginning of her fantastic career. However, it seems that things are not working well in 2021. the American sensation and not-so-great 7-7 win-loss record this season and she has won only 1 of the last 6 matches that she played. It is worth noticing that the American had surgery in Australia when she had to remove her appendix. Nevertheless, she has never managed to get back to her best tennis.
While it could be not surprising that Sofia parted ways with her father, it was quite strong her wording on social media stressing that she decided to make it move. The 22-year-old is now building up a new technical team that will have her go to the next level.
This was Sophia’s message on social media:
“Hi everyone, I wanted to let everyone know that after many years together, I have decided to part ways with my father as my coach. This was not an easy decision for me as we shared many great moments together and had a lot of success.
I will be forever grateful for my dad’s sacrifice and contributions towards getting me to where I am today. I am excited for what the future holds and look forward to putting together a new technical team in the coming weeks ahead. I can’t wait to get back on the court next week in Rome:)”

Currently the world no.4 (career-high), Kenin played her last match on the 21st of April when she surrendered to world no.29 Anett Kontaveit 7-5 6-4 in the 2nd round in Stuttgart (draw).
During this season the American owns an overall 7-7 match record.
