What a year for Simona Halep!
Not many people saw this happen, but it is rather clear that the 21 years old from Romania will break in the top 10 any soon.
Simona had a wonderful year to win her first career title in Nurnberg, and then win ‘s-Hertgenbosch, Budapest and now even New Haven. The Romanian started the year as a world no.47 to now be very close to the top 20. See progression
The Match
The final against Petra Kvitova was absolutely a one way traffic. Simona was always on to top of her game to win 58 points vs. Petra’s 32 (25 -13 in terms of winners). Halep broke Kvitova 4 times without dropping a single service game. Match Stats.

“She was really prepared to play. The beginning was pretty tricky for me. I had chances to break her. Maybe then it would be a different match. But I didn’t do it. I mean, she took everything she could and she played very well.” commented Kvitova.
