Fish retires for heat stroke against Nieminen in Winston-Salem

The former American no.1 is still struggling with his fitness.

Mardy’s career has recently been affected by an irregular heart bit. Fish has been alternating some periods of inactivity with some come backs. This time it looks trickier.

Now ranked world no. 173, Mardy tried another comeback in July when he lost his opener against Michael Russel. Then he reached the third round in Washington (lost to Kevin Anderson) to lose in the opener in Cincinnati to Kohlschreiber. In Winston-Salem he had a difficult win against world no. 83 Evgeny Donskoy and now he had to retire in the third set against Nieminem.

From Fish

Mardy issued a statement via the ATP saying that he has suffered from a heat stroke and “The weather just got to me a little bit and I just couldn’t go any more,”.

Well better not to risk anything…
