Thoughtful Raonic to apologize to Del Potro for net controversy

Milos is a great guy, a great guy that did a mistake.

What happened?

During the match against Del Potro in the 3rd round in Montreal Milos touched the net before a ball was dead (alias it bounced twice). This meant that Milos would have lost the point, and that was an important one.Funny enough everybody, but the umpire, saw that. From the video it was clear that Milos was also full aware of the situation, but he did shut up when the umpire gave the point to him.

That point allowed Milos to win a crucial break against Del Potro to then win the match.

Delpo was very angry to tweet “Very upset after the match I lost. About the end… I think everybody saw what happened.” ….  and Milos lost his face.

After the match, Milos committed the second mistake to defend his behaviour and say “It’s a big point.  If you can put somebody in the situation being down breakpoint, same thing happens, do you call it on yourself?”  When a reporter said to him that that should have been the point of Del Potro Milos replied “Hypothetically yes, technically no,” …and that wasn’t good.

Milos’ u-turn: I am disappointed by myself.

After a couple of day Milos had time to reflect about the incident to say  “I feel like I made a mistake in the spur of the moment, something, I guess, because I hadn’t been faced with it before,”

I’m disappointed with myself, how I dealt with it, and it’s something I learned a lot from. I really didn’t have the opportunity until really the last two days to think about it that much. It’s something that I feel sorry about and something I want to apologize to Juan when I see him here.

I don’t think I dealt with that the right way, and I think it’s something that I probably should have in that situation, and probably in the future, call on myself.”

Milos did a mistake, but if you consider the situation of playing a crucial match in front of a homecrowd, and you consider also how committed are this guys (and the fact that they are in their early 20s)… well you need to understand them.

Good stuff!
