Rybarikova beats Petkovic for to win her 2nd Washington title

It must be the air, but Magdalena Rybarikova seems unbeatable in Washington!

The world no. 43 won her second straight title in DC to still been unbeaten. In this edition she was seeded no.7 . After winning the first 3 matches with tough 3 setters (in the quarters she has also upset seed no.1 Angelique Kerber) , Magdalena won the semis and the final in straight sets.

The final with Andrea Petkovic was quite tricky as she had to cope with a very slow start to find herself  0-4 down in the opening set. Then the Slovakian managed to win 8 straight games to win the opener and lead 2-0 in the second set. After a bit of  ups and downs Rybarikova finally won the second set at the breaker. Match Stats

This is Rybarikova’s 4th career title, the first of this season.

Rybarikova: My arm was shaking

An elated Rybarikova commented ‘I would love to play all the time, maybe,”. ”I was really tight and my arm was kind of shaking,” she added.

Petkovic: Struggling for lack of energy

Andrea had a very tricky semifinal to suffer from a 15 hours rain delay that made her going to sleep 5am. ”That lack of energy – it doesn’t affect my body so much, but it affects always my emotions and my mental state. So I was getting really emotional out there when I normally stay really calm,” she said.
