Sharapova battles past Azarenka to reach the final in Paris

Queen Maria will play another final in Paris.

Sharapova had a tricky task ahead in the semifinal as Vika Azarenka has always been a nasty opponent for her. Probably the air in Paris inspired again the Russian Beauty that found another good win to play for the title against her nemesis Serena Williams.

Sharapova was particularly aggressive to score 42 winners (vs. Vika’s 15), blast 12 aces and 11 double faults.

From Maria

“To come back as the defending champion, it’s extremely special to get back on that stage where it comes down to the last two players of the tournament,” said Sharapova

The final vs. Serena

Maria will play the final against Serena. Head to head is 13-2 for Serena. Sharapova does not defeat the world no.1 since 2004 and that was sometimes ago… time to end the drought?
