Gasquet beats Isner to reach the final in Toronto – 2012 Rogers Cup

Richard got everybody by surprise by reaching the final in Toronto playing a wonderful tennis. This is an “odd” comeback as Gasquet reached already the final in 2006 when he lost to Roger Federer 2-6 6-3 6-2.

The Frenchman played a very solid match with Isner without conceding a single break points in both sets.  The opener was decided at the tiebreak (tipical stuff when you play the American). The second set was a bit smoother for Gasquet that managed to finally break John and win it 6-3.

“The key of the match was to return well, and I did it. I tried to return all the time to make him play,” said Gasquet.  “Then I like to defend.  But of course I had to do a big tie-break, and I did it.  I played incredible in the tie-break and then I felt well.”

Richard will play either Djokovic or Tipsarevic in the final.
