Federer defeats Istomin playing fantastic tennis

During a recent interview the Maestro said he is happy with his tennis, but disappointed by the results achieved so far in 2013. He is completely right.

Roger is playing one of the best tennis of his “late career”. He is as aggressive as ever and he still manages to have a good consistency during a match.

The Swiss Maestro played at his absolute best against Istomin to drop only 4 points on his serve and break his opponent 4 times.

To be fair, Istomin didn’t have the weaponry to play Federer. Denis’ service was far too weak and he was never able to convert a defensive poistion into an attacking one.

Roger on the other side was absolute sublime to delight the crowd with a very clean and spotless tennis. A sort of a collection of drop shots, sudden accellerations, trick shots… just very entertaining and super effective.

From Roger
“It felt good from the start and was able to maintain that level of play,” said Federer. “I never thought he got into the match at all. That gives you obviously even more confidence.”

Roger will Dodig in the 3rd round as the Croat upset Benneteau 6-4 6-2. This will be the first match between Federer and Dodig.
