Nervous Azarenka loses her cool to be upset by Makarova in Madrid

Not a good day for Vika that lost her first match of the season by world no.24 Ekaterina Makarova.

The Belarus had to bow after 1 hour and 53 minutes. Vika imploded on a 3-3 scoreline in the decider when she smashed the racket to receive a penaly point as she had already been warned previously. That was game over as Vika lost the decider 6-3.

About the penalty point

“I just felt it was a weird call for me because I had no idea I had a code violation,” Vika said “But, I mean, it happened. It didn’t help, for sure, but it’s okay. It’s my own fault,”

Back to practise

Vika didn’t lose her spirit to then comment “I still have another tournament before the French Open to compete in and I’m going to go back on the practice court as I always do and work hard to improve.”
