Dimitrov, Raonic and Tomic advance in Washington

A good start for 3 of the most interesting players in DC.

Dimitrov

Grigor had to face a very dangerous Malisse  in his opener to beat him 7-6 (4) 6-4. The difference between the two wasn’t much as in the first set the Bulgarian won at the tiebreak and in the second it was just about a break difference. Grigor managed to convert the only break point he had, Malisse didn’t do that. Eventually the Dimitrov won 69 (13 aces) points vs. Malisse’s 62 (7 aces). Match stats

Dimitrov will face Sam Querrey that has beat Denis Istomin 4-6 6-3 7-6(9) after saving 2 match points. This will be the first match between these two.

Raonic

It took 71 minutes for Milos Raonic to beat Samuel Groth. The Canadian played a good tennis to completely dominate the match in his serve, but to struggle to convert break points (2/9). Eventually Milos manage to break his opponent twice per set. Match stats

Milos will play Marinko Matosevic in the next round (6-4 7-5 on Davydenko).Head to head is 1-0 for Raonic

Tomic

Bernard had a good wi against another youngster, David Goffin, 6-1 6-3 in 65 minutes. Bernard was rather good at defending all 6 break points conceded to David to break him 4 times.

Bernard will play either vs. Del Potro (seed no.1) or Ryan Harrison.
