Alexander Zverev’s personal life continues to be the focus of many tennis fans after his ex-girlfriend, Olga Sharypova, accused him of domestic abuse. Sharypova made the allegations on her Instagram account, and she promised her followers that she would provide more details about her abusive relationship with Zverev. One week after she made the allegations, the 23-year-old gave an extensive interview with, Ben Rothenberg, a famous and often controversial tennis journalist. In a recently released article, Sharypova alleges that Zverev punched her in the face during last year’s Laver Cup in Geneva.
Who is Olga Sharypova
The couple had been childhood friends before they started dating. Sharypova took up tennis when she was five years old, and she played in several ITF tournaments around the world before she gave up the sport when she turned 15 and switched her attention to photography. However, She had already struck up a relationship with Zverev, and the two briefly dated before they grew apart after they took different career paths. Six years later, the couple would rekindle their relationship, and they officially started dating on 5th September 2018. Their relationship lasted 13 months, but Sharypova has claimed that Zverev increasingly became aggressive towards her, and their relationship crumbled during last years’ US Open.
What happened in New York
According to the 23-year-old, Alexander attempted to strangle by using a pillow to sit on her face during their stay at the Lotte New York Palace hotel. Fortunately, Olga managed to escape, and she texted one of her friends to pick her up after the incident. However, her friend’s stepmother intervened and after she invited Zverev to their home for a reconciliatory talk, the couple settled their differences.
The punch in the face in Geneva
Sharypova accompanied the German tennis star to Geneva for the inaugural Laver Cup tournament, but after another fight in their hotel room, the Russian claims that Zverev punched her in the face for the first time in their relationship. Immediately after the incident, She attempted to commit suicide by barricading herself in the hotel’s bathroom and injecting herself with a dose of insulin.

Luckily, Sharypova’s attempts to take her life were unsuccessful. One tennis official intervened and administered first aid procedures to save her. Zverev’s ex-girlfriend has insisted that she will reveal more details about how she finally managed to escape from the toxic relationship during last year’s ATP tour in China. After Sharypova’s interview with Ben Rothenberg was published, Zverev’s PR consultant, Bela Ande, claimed that the German star was open to having a reasonable and respectful dialogue with his ex-girlfriend. Olga has insisted that she won’t press any criminal charges against the US Open finalist, but she wanted to share her story to help other women going through abusive relationships.
