The Roland Garros increases the prize money

Tennis is becoming reacher and reacher. There is a interesting (and we hope healthy) trend to increase the prize money among many tournaments. The US Open was the most aggressive one, and not the Roland Garros is following the trend.

This year the payout will increase to 10.1 million euros (a 19% increase on 2012) and in 2016 it will reach a whopping 15 million.

From ATP

Brad Drewett, the Executive Chairman and Chairman of ATP commented “The Roland Garros prize money increases are another positive step forward for our players and we welcome the long-term commitment the FFT has made through 2016,” he commented.

“Following on from the Australian Open and US Open increases, Roland Garros is the latest Grand Slam to step up and recognise the input the players have in the success of its tournament. The progress that has been made through our discussions with the Slams over the past 15 months has been truly significant for our sport as a whole.”

Good news, let’s hope this will help especially the low ranked players to finance their tennis career.
