NET WORTH. Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova among the the richest Self-Made Women Under 40

Serena Williams And Maria Sharapova

Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova are still making headlines off the court. Forbes magazine recently released its list of the 100 richest self-made women in the United States, and Serena and Sharapova were among the 13 women on the list who were below 40 years of age.

Serena Williams Net worth

Unsurprisingly, Serena is the wealthiest female tennis player in the world, with her net worth estimated at $225 million. The former world number one is 83rd on the list of top 100 wealthiest women in the United States. The former world No.1 has won 23 Grand Slam titles in her illustrious tennis career, and apart from her significant prize money earnings, she has also had several endorsements from some top companies such as Nike and Pepsi. The American tennis star has several successful business ventures, most notably her fashion clothing line, and investments in more than 30 companies. Despite her off-court success, Williams has not spoken about any retirement plans, and she is still in the hunt for her 24th major title.

Maria Sharapova Net Worth

Maria Sharapova was the only other female tennis player to feature in Forbes’s latest wealth list. The five-time Grand Slam champion announced her retirement from the game in February, but she is still among the wealthiest women in the world. Sharapova has an estimated net worth of $200 million, coming in at the 87th position in Forbes’s top 100 list. The 33-year-old former tennis star was one of the most marketable female athletes during the peak of her career. Sharapova signed lucrative endorsement deals with Nike, Porsche, and Evian, and she topped the Forbes list of the highest-paid female athletes for 11 straight years before injuries affected her play in the latter stages of her career. Even though Sharapova and Williams are still the richest women in tennis; Naomi Osaka could join them in future Forbes magazine wealth compilation lists.

What About Naomi Osaka?

According to the popular publication, Osaka was the highest-paid female athlete in 2020. The Japanese star earned $37.4 million in the twelve months leading up to June this year. Osaka’s earnings were the highest that a female athlete had amassed in one year. Sharapova had previously held the record at $29.7 million, which she earned in 2015. While Osaka did not make Forbes top 100 lists of the world’s richest self-made women, her multicultural background makes her attractive to many commercial sponsors, and she could surpass Sharapova and Williams to become the wealthiest female athlete in the world.
