The ATP500 in St. Petersburg is about to commence after an intense Roland Garros that ended with yet another triumph from Rafael Nadal.

This event in Russia has just been upgraded from being an ATP250 competition to an ATP500 to attract more talents. Initially, the entry list was absolutely glorious with some of the best names of the sport. However, as predicted, some top players decided not to play anymore and therefore the local fans lost the opportunity to see this year Stefanos Tsitsipas, Matteo Berrettini, Pablo Carreno Busta, Grigor Dimitrov, Kei Nishikori, and Kevin Anderson.

Jannik Sinner has truly impressed during his run at the French Open where he reached the quarters before losing honorably to Rafael Nadal. The Italian sensation was due to play in St Petersburg where he originally had grated a wildcard, but eventually he could not compete because of a stomach issue. Therefore, Jannik was replaced by lucky loser Emilio Gomez.

Daniil Medvedev, Denis Shapovalov and Andrey Rublev are still reading the draw in Russia, where they are considered as the top favorites.
