ENTRY LIST SARDINIA. Schwartzman withdraws before playing Nadal. Fognini in as an emergency substitution

Fabio Fognini will join 5 Italians in the main draw of the new event in Sardinia after the retirement of Diego Schwartzman

Schwartzman Fognini And Sardinia

Interesting stuff is already happening at the new ATP250 that will be staged in Sardinia next week. Diego Schwartzman was leading the entry list in Italy, but as forecasted, he decided to withdraw ahead of his French Open semifinal against Rafael Nadal and Fabio Fognini will be in as an “emergency substitution.”

EMERGENCY SUBSTITUTION: Fabio Fognini in

Fabio Fognini will now be part of the event because of a rare clause that allows players that didn’t submit the entry before the required deadline. This rule applies only for ATP250 tournaments and if the following conditions are met:

i. Two (2) of the tournament’s top four (4) seeds withdraw; and
ii. One (1) of the withdrawals involves the first or second seeded player; and
iii. The substitute player (1) will become one of the tournament’s top two (2) seeds.

The revised entry list

Fabio will be in the good company of some other Italians. In fact, Gianluca Mager, Stefano Travaglia and Salvatore Caruso are already part of the entry list. Recently, they have been joined by Marco Cecchinato and Lorenzo Musetti as both managed to get a wild card.
