Another very good match from Michael Llodra as the Frenchman upset his compatriot and seed no.5 7-6 (3) 6-2 in just 80 minutes.
It was Llodra’s trademark tennis with lots of runs to the net and very short points. Eventually Michael lost only a service game to break a tired Tsonga 3 times. Michael managed to reverse a 0-6 head to head record against Tsonga.
From Llodra
“It’s special to beat him. It’s nice,” said Llodra. “Sometimes you have to go different in your mindset, and today I tried this and it worked. So it’s good.”
From Tsonga
“I was in France yesterday. I just arrived. It was tough to have a good reaction,” said Jo. “I cannot play properly with Michael because he’s playing everything in two, three shots. So you don’t have time really to get a good rhythm. When you’re not so good physically, it’s tough to have a very good precision and to react really fast.”
Llodra will play Tursunov in the next round. Head to head is 1-0 for Tursunov, but that was in Bangkok 2007…
In the other matches seed no.3 Tomas Berdych defeated wildcard Ram 6-1 6-3 in 54 minutes. Berdych will play agasint Kamke in the next round. Head to head is 1-o for Kamke (!)
