Tsonga wins the 2013 title in Marseille

Wait a great tournament fo Tsonga! The world no. 8 saved 5 match points in the quarters against Tomic and yesterday he won the title after saving another match point.

The final lasted 2 hours and 10 minutes. The incredible stat is that Berdych won much more points than Tsonga (104 vs 93). This is quite uncharacteristic as it happens that the loser wins more points than his opponent, but 11 it’s a lot.

Tsonga blasted 17 aces in 15 service games to save 6 break points out of 7.

This is Tsonga’s 10th career title, the 7th on indoor courts.

From Tsonga

“This is a great victory,” said Jo . “I stayed in the match even when it was very difficult and waited for my chance. I survived and took my chance when it came. I’m very happy. This shows me that I’m on the right way. The draw was very strong here.

“He played better than me during the first half of the match, but then I played better than him. He served very well and I was maybe too close to the baseline in the beginning.”

From Berdych

“I had a few chances, but Jo was able to serve well in the moment,” said Berdych. “That’s the sport. Here, I lost three tie-breaks. This one was very important. But it happens.”
