Fantastic Cilic demolishes Melzer to win his 3rd title in Zagreb

It was another wonderful week for Marin in Zagreb that maanged to win this trophy once again after his titles in 2009 and 2010.

The final was a one way traffic with the Croat always in full control. Cilic won 62 points vs. Melzer’s 38, he blasted 8 aces on 8 service games (no double faults), he didn’t concede a single break point to break Jurgen 4 times (he had 12 break points).

From Cilic

“Most of my game was working extremely well,”he said

“My returns were really good and I had a read on almost all of his serves. I took my chances and defended well. Overall, I played a great match from beginning to the end.”

From Melzer

“He was the better player today,” commented Melzer.

“I needed it to be close at 4-all, 5-all in the first set to give me confidence. That didn’t happen and he ran away with it. I felt like I was hitting the ball really well at the beginning, but he hit the ball even better.

“What made the difference in the first few games is that he had free points on serve, whereas I had to work for them: hit a winner or play well so he missed. He deserved the victory.”

This wasn’t a bad week for Melzer as he reached the milestone of 300th wins on tour against Rosol.
