Patrick Mouratoglou has just launched a new interesting competition called the Ultimate Tennis Showdown (UTS). The event features some of the top male tennis players in the world in clashing in a “mega-round robin” with a revolutionary score system.
Patrick had the luxury of having Stefanos Tsitsipas playing the UTS thanks to his special relationship with the Greek ace that trains at his Academy. During a recent interview with Essentially Sport, the Frenchman disclosed that he is interested in extending the UTS formula also to women.
Serena Williams and Cori Gauff are also coached by Patrick and his team. Therefore, Mouratoglou confirmed that if he is going to host the women’s version of the UTS he will ask Serena and Coco to participate.
“I mean when it will come up the first two I’m going to ask are Serena and Coco, that’s 100%. Yeah, for sure. It is going to come up, but I don’t know yet exactly when. You know, it’s been extremely challenging to organize something that big in such a short period of time. But don’t worry, very early we’re going to have women also,” said the Frenchman.
Patrick hosted some of his top players in a camp in the US during the off-season. Serena and Coco were part of it. Will that be the right occasion to stage the UTS with both the Americans?

Ranked world no.9, the American played her last match on the 8th of February when she lost to Anastasija Sevastova 7-65 3-6 7-64 in the Rubber 4 of the Fed Cup.

Cori Gauff in 2020
Ranked no.52, Gauff played her last match on the 26th of January when she capitulated to Sofia Kenin 6-75 6-3 6-0 in the 4th round of the Australian Open.
Serena Williams and Cori Gauff have never played each other.
