Rafael Nadal has expressed on multiple times his pessimism about the restarting of tennis after he Coronavirus lockdown. However, things are coming back relatively quickly. The Spanish legend is back to training like many of his colleagues all over the world. In addition, there are many unofficial tennis events that are taking place right now.
During a recent interview with El Pais, Rafa was asked to express his opinion about the future. Even if he is well aware about the challenges ahead, the Mallorcan sounded a bit more optimistic than the past. While acknowledging that a cure needs to be found, Nadal can only see courts and stadiums full of fans as it used to be in the not so distant past.
“I imagine the courts and stadiums full, which is how I like to see them. You have to be patient and find the cure, but I don’t believe in looking for a new normal”
The new normality will be the one that we accept. I like to see people hug people, share with people and we have to look for this again. We cannot settle for just eternally complying with distancing measures ”, he commented from Mallorca.
If tennis restarts on the occasion of the US Open, the Spaniard will probably need to try to defend 3 main titles back to back at the Us Open, Internazionali d’Italia, and the Roland Garros.

Currently the world no.2, Nadal played his last match on the 29th of February when he overcame Taylor Fritz 6-3 6-2 in the final in Acapulco to win his 85th career title.
