1 THING was the key for Nadal to achieve so much success as per his coach Carlos Moya

Rafael Nadal training

Rafael Nadal is one of the greatest players in tennis history. The Spanish sensation has conquered as many as 85 titles and 19 slams. Rafa won the roland Garros 12 times, but according to his coach and dear friend Carlos Moya winning Wimbledon on 2 occasions was also an incredible feat given Rafa’s style.

Competitiveness the key for Rafa’s success

Talking on Eurosport’s Tennis Legends podcast, Carlos talking about Rafa’s competitiveness, commented:

I think you are born like that. I think you are born like that. I mean, you can learn a lot of things for sure. He learned that and improved in many ways, but you have to have it.

Also, his background is very good, he has a family that was in the professional sport before, so for sure that helps. I mean, if you can teach that, we will have many Rafas and we don’t have that at all.

It’s amazing that a guy from Mallorca to win 19 Grand Slams, 12 French Opens. For me it was a big surprise that he won Wimbledon as well.

But I think for sure you improve things but you are born like that and I have no doubt about that.”

Rafa has just resumed his training in Mallorca as the local lockdown measures have been eased.
