US OPEN. Tennis to restart in New York on Friday. Federer, Nadal, Djokovic back in action in August?

Tennis will soon be back in New York to give some hopes to see the US Open taking place this year

We have great news from New York as the fight with the Coronavirus is going in the right direction.

During his Monday’s briefing, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo explained that he is ready to reopen the activities in the state on a regional basis. In addition, low-risk outdoor can reopen statewide. Cuomo clearly stated that tennis is among these activities.

Is this good for the US Open?

Of course, allowing recreational tennis and letting the US Open taking place are 2 different things. However, it is encouraging that our beloved sport is widely considered as low risk and therefore “new ways” to organize the American slam may be found.

The US Open is still scheduled to commence by the end of August, and there are various scenarios that are taken into considerations. The events may be played without fans, or it can be moved altogether to Indian Wells that has the capacity and the premises to host this kind of tournament.

Tennis is a sport whose social distancing is natural (singles). This is a big difference with some other sports. For example, Dr. Anthony Fauci, the American face of the fight against the COVID-19, has recently blasted football to say:  “If people are in such close contact as football players are on every single play, then that’s the perfect set up for spreading.”

If everything goes well, we might have the opportunity to see Federer, Nadal, Djokovic (and more) back to action in August!
