IT’S OFFICIAL. The Olympics are postponed to 2021 to give breathing space to Wimbledon

Olympics

Finally, the statement was released! Tokyo tried to avoid as much as possible to delay the inevitable: the postponement of the Olympic Games.

During the weekend, team Canada decided to withdraw from the Games and team Australia was asked to get ready for the Olympics… in 2021.

Japan’s prime minister, Shinzo Abe, commented: “We agreed that a postponement would be the best way to ensure that the athletes are in peak condition when they compete and to guarantee the safety of the spectators.”

It’s interesting to notice that the event will still be called the “Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020” even if they are held next year.

Shapovalov, Auger-Aliassime, Andreescu will not play the Olympics after Canada withdrew

Why it could be good for Wimbledon

The Olympics were supposed to commence the 24th of July while Wimbledon is scheduled to commence the 29th of June which seems to be a bit too early. If everything goes well, the Championships have the best chances to be played after 1 month.

Nothing is set nothing is sure and everything needs to be confirmed.
