The ATP1000 in Monte Carlo is just cancelled, not postponed in 2020. Next in 2021

The Principality will not have his ATP1000 this year

ATP Monte Carlo

The tennis world is trying to reorganize after the big chaos caused by the Coronavirus outbreak. The ATP suspended its tour for 6 weeks while the WTA and the ITF will stay still for 5 weeks.

The first notable tournament to be canceled was Indian Wells. However, there is a growing feeling that Indian Wells will not be canceled for the season, but it will be postponed.  Some are speculating that it should take place after the US Open, some others are pointing at November as the offseason could be reduced after the players will get a rather extended 2 months’ rest in March and April. Some other tournaments may also be postponed in this season.

What about Monte Carlo?

The ATP1000 in Monte Carlo was among the casualties. However, the Direction made it very clear that this event will not take place this year with the following statement:

“The Direction of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters regrets to have to inform you of the cancellation of the Tournament.
Following the directives of the Monégasque and French authorities, administrative and sporting, in particular the ban on gatherings of more than 1000 people, as well as the recent announcement of President Macron stating amongst other things that it is just the beginning and that the French government will announce measures to restrict to the maximum all gatherings, and also enhanced by the ATP’s decision to cancel all tournaments over the next six weeks, it has become clear that the cancellation of our event is the only option to ensure the safety and welfare of the players, spectators and staff, due to the spread and threat of the Covid-19 pandemic.
It is with great sadness that we face these exceptional circumstances. As previously stated, the Direction confirms that the tickets that have been purchased will be reimbursed. The procedure will be communicated at a later date.
We look forward to welcoming you from April 10th to 18th, 2021!
The Direction”

That was pretty clear.
