CORONAVIRUS. The Miami Open is moving forward… for now

The next ATP1000 in Florida is still on.... at least for now.

Hard Rock Stadium

The tennis community was left in shock after Indian Wells was canceled just before its start because of the Coronavirus threat.  Now the attention is on the other tournaments as there is a growing fear that some other top events will be canceled.

The next in line is the Miami Open (Mard 23 – April 5). Unfortunately, some other major events in the area were “postponed,” such as the Ultra Music Festival. However, the organisation of the Miami Open released a statement saying that the tournament is still scheduled. There might be the possibility that the competition will be played without the fans. Still, everything needs to be confirmed and now it’s only possible to speculate.

The Statement

“The 2020 Miami Open is moving forward as scheduled, March 23
– April 5. Safety remains a top priority, and we are monitoring the
COVID-19 situation closely with local, state and federal officials
and health organizations in the lead up to the tournament. In
addition, we are working with the ATP and WTA tours on
recommended best practices and following CDC guidelines closely
to provide a safe environment for fans, players and staff.”

The Venue

The event will take place against the Hard Rock Stadium. The defending champion is Roger Federer that last year defeated John Isner in the final.
