After winning the Australian Open, Sofia Kenin became the 8th of the last 12th women to win a major for the first time. Even if she had a great 2019, this instant success made some thinking that Sofia could be just another 1-slam wonder. Renowned Coach Ricci Macci doesn’t think so. Ricci has a huge experience as he had the pleasure to coach the likes of Venus and Serena Williams, Maria Shapovalov, and Andy Roddick (among others). Therefore, it’s safe to say that the American knows 2 or 3 things about tennis.
Kenin the heir of Serena?
Kenin has always looked up to Serena Wiliams and Maria Sharapova and according to Riddi, she can really be the “next one” in American tennis.
During a recent interview, talking with Omnisport, Macci explains why he expects Kenin to win many more slams to comment:
“I’d say by summer she’ll be on top of the rankings, it’s right around the corner. She’ll be in the top five or 10 for the next 10 years; she’s not going anywhere because when you show up to play, she’s always going to be there.
People don’t understand what they are looking at; I can see her winning double figures grand slams, she might get 15 before she’s done. She’s the real deal, this is Hingis, Halep but with a tremendous mental strength that doesn’t blink. She expected to win the final, her father did and I did.”
