Bianca Andreescu and Serena Williams, NOT Sofia Kenin are the 2021 AO betting favorites

The 2019 US Open champ is the favorite to win the 2021 Australian Open.

Bianca Andreescu overtakes Serena Williams, Sofia Kenin as 2021 Australian Open betting favorite

Bianca Andreescu is currently the betting favorite to prevail in the 2021 Australian Open. She inches ahead of Serena Williams (that will be 39!) and 2020 champ Sofia Kenin in the latest release. Andreescu has an 8.0 betting score on the betting website bet365. Williams and Australian star Ashleigh Barty follow her with 9.00 each. Kenin, on the other hand, is sixth on the 2021 Australian Open list at 11.00.

The betting comes just a few days after the end of the 2020 Australian Open. If Bianca Andreescu ends up getting the title next year, she would do so on just her second appearance in the tournament.

Sofia Kenin, Serena Williams in 2020 Australian Open

Sofia Kenin surprised everyone with her performance in the 2020 Australian Open, clinching her first Grand Slam win. Serena Williams, on the other hand, failed to go beyond the third round.

The American prodigy got the title after defeating Spanish tennis star Garbine Muguruza 4-6 6-2 6-2. Because of her victory, Kenin became the young American woman to become a Grand Slam champion since Williams did it in 2002.

Kenin, born to Russian parents, said the achievement was a dream come true for her. She also said that she is proud of being both Russian and American. Williams, on the other hand, exited the tournament in the third round. She lost a close match to Chinese player Qiang Wang 6-4 6-7 7-5. Because of this, Williams will have to continue on her quest to achieve a record-tying 24th Grand Slam win.

Kenin’s 2020 Australian Open performance resulted in a massive rise in her ranking. She reached the world top 10 for the first time, ranking no. 7. She is now the highest-ranking American on the WTA list, two slots above the no. 9 Williams.

Bianca Andreescu’s 2020 plans

Bianca Andreescu has a busy year ahead as she sets to improve on her breakthrough last year. Tennis Canada named Andreescu as a key player for the country as it participates in the 2020 Fed Cup qualifiers in the Swiss Tennis Arena next week. She will join Leylah Annie Fernandez, Gabriela Dabrowski, and Eugenie Bouchard in the team’s push to defeat Switzerland.

There is, however, still a chance that she will not push through with her appearance. According to the tennis federation, her participation will only happen if she has fully healed from her injury.

It can be remembered that Andreescu was not able to participate in multiple tournaments in the past month. This was because of the knee injury she sustained during the 2019 WTA Finals in Shenzhen, China. She even had to pull out of Auckland’s ASB Classic and the 2020 Australian Open as a result.
