John McEnroe is one of the most controversial characters in tennis also after he retired from competitions. The American is not shy about expressing his opinions and he posted a rather aggressive (and hilarious) video going pretty hard on Margaret Court and Tennis Australia. After attacking the Australian for her despicable racist and homophobic remarks, John expressed his disappointment for the fact that Tennis Australia will celebrate the 50 years since Margaret won the Grand Slam in 1970.
Craig Tiley, the head of Tennis Australia, commented: “There’s a difference between a recognition of that and a celebration of someone. Her recognition is for her tennis achievements only.”
McEnroe commented: “It doesn’t work that way. You can’t separate the persons from their achievement.”
Please Serena win 2 slams
Then McEnroe ends his video saying: “Serena, please win two more Slams and pass Margaret Court so we can leave Margaret Court in the past, where she belongs.”
In fact, the Australian has won 24 slams while Serena is “stuck” at 23.
"Please win two more Grand Slams so we can leave Margaret Court and her offensive views in the past where she belongs"
