Czech Repubblic 1 step away to win the 2012 Davis Cup – Youtube

Czech Republic is one step away to win the Davis Cup, but that step is rather gigantic. It all came after Berdych and Stepanek won the doubles to put their team on a good 2-1 lead.

The doubles

Besides a horrible 0-3 start for the Czech team, the rest of the match wasn’t a big nightmare. The Czech team was always in control to win the next 3 sets. This win put the home team in a nice position to grab the Davis Cup

“It’s incredible,” said Berdych, “It’s just one point; we’ll do everything for that”

“We know what we are capable to do in Davis Cup,” Stepanek said. “And we also know that the doubles points matter and we played together so many times, so we have all the experience we can have.”

The last 2 matches

The problem for the home team is that both matches of the final day are quite tricky. The surface is rather slow and they are playing on the home soil, but defeating Ferrer is nowadays very difficult and Almagro is stronger than Stepanek (on paper… but does it count on a Davis Cup final?).

Berdych – Ferrer

Berdych will be dead tired after playing almost 8 hours in the previous 2 days and that’s no good when on the other side of the net you have a very motivated Ferrer.

“I’m ready to do it tomorrow,” Berdych said. “I’ll try to come with my strong game, and with the crowd on my back it would be a good combination to make it.”

The Spaniard leads also 4-2 in head to head matches (2-0 on indoor hard court), so David seems to be the favorite.

Stepanek – Almagro

Only 1 thing is certain, if Berdych loses to Ferrer the crowd will be on fire during this match and both Stepanek and Almagro are not the easiest players in these moments. So expect fireworks!

“Tomas playing after a four-hour game finishing at midnight and coming so strong today, it just show the desire and hunger we have for the trophy,” Stepanek said. “Hopefully we can make it tomorrow.”

Stepanek leads 2-1 vs. Almagro that on paper he is the better player. Actually… everything could happen!

Prediction

3-2… but for who? Well.. it is absolutely impossible to predict, but everything seems to be set up for a Czech triumph!
