Coco Gauff is ready to start yet another great run in 2020 after impressing this season.

The 15-year-old is widely considered as the hot prospect of American tennis. She hit the headlines during her run in Wimbledon, where she reached the 2nd week following an unforgettable win over her childhood idol Venus Williams.

Gauff vs. Serena Williams and Bianca Andreescu

Coco decided to start the new season in Auckland, an event that is already packed with top players such as Serena Williams, Bianca Andreescu, and Caroline Wozniacki.

The ASB Classic is a tournament that loves giving visibility to upcoming players. in 2019, Bianca Andreescu commenced her incredible season from Auckland, where she reached the final starting straight from the qualifications.

The tournament director Karl Budge had already his eyes on the young American to comment:

“We were talking to her long before her Wimbledon run. She’s been a player of significant note and someone who’s clearly going to be a star.

So we started talking to her 12 months ago and those conversations heated up in Miami, I was lucky enough to be there when she won her first match after getting a wildcard and had a chat with her after that.

We were always confident after Wimbledon that if she got in, that we’d stand a really good chance, and thankfully the back end of her season has been so strong, winning her first title.”

The only way that Coco could make it to Auckland was without a wildcard because of a controversial WTA’s age eligibility rule.

According to Budge, new exciting players are going to compete in New Zealand and they will be announced in the days to come.
