After the ATP Finals in London, Roger Federer deemed it fit to travel to Latin America to take part in a series of exhibition matches. He, alongside Zverev, were scheduled to tour Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador and Chile, where they would entertain a large number of Latin American fans.

Despite facing some criticism regarding their decision not to participate in the Davis Cup, the two did not seem to blink an eye. Federer was not going to be part of the historic tournament since Switzerland did not qualify. Whereas Zverev did not fancy the new format of the Davis Cup hence opted to withdraw from the German team.

A dream come true for Federer

The chance to play in Mexico as a professional tennis player appeals to Federer, who only played in Mexico once as a junior. His counterparts, Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic, already played there during the Mexican Open. And in 2016, a knee injury denied him a chance to play in Mexican soil. However, this year, he declared he was willing to play there.

He said, “I would like to play in South America more often in Asia, to know other sand tournaments as well.”

The Swiss will be playing in Mexico City on November 23rd. He will play against Alexander Zverev in front of at least 43,000 fans. Judging by his recent twitter activities, the Swiss is psyched to make his dream of playing in Mexico come true.

“I can’t wait to come and play Alexander Zverev in Mexico City on November 23rd. I see you there,” he said in the video, which he shared on twitter.

Record attendance in Mexico Square

Federer will be hoping to play in front of record attendance in Mexico Square. More than 40,000 tickets have already been sold. Though there is a 20% risk of rain on that very day. Regardless of the possibility of rain being experienced on game day, plans have been put in place to ensure the day goes on well. Federer is focused on not only playing his game on Mexican soil as a professional but also continuing with his agenda of supporting the growth of tennis. This is why he has continued to play in a wide variety of charity games.

After the match in Mexico City, the duo will end their exhibition tour in Ecuador. Both have enjoyed an excellent time in Latin America playing in different stadiums and meeting several fans. In Chile, fans cheered both of them pretty well. There were also funny moments where Alexander Zverev attempted to bribe a chair umpire.
