The ATP Finals in London will start on 10th to 18th November. The draw is already out with Roger Federer set to face Novak Djokovic in the Round Robin matches. The Swiss has made 16 appearances in this season-ending tournament winning it six times. He is followed by Djokovic who has five victories in 11 ATP finals appearances. Sadly, for Nadal, he has never won any ATP Finals.

Federer in Bjorn Borg group

Roger Federer is the 3rd seeded player in the ATP Finals to be played in London. The Swiss was drawn in the Bjorn Borg group, and he is set to face off with Novak Djokovic, Dominic Thiem, and Matteo Berrettini. This year’s season-ending tournament will present the 38-year-old with a chance to win his 7th ATP Finals in London. However, he will have to overcome Djokovic, who is very focused on retaining his world number one rank, currently being held by Rafael Nadal.

The Spaniard will be hoping to recover early enough to take part in the upcoming ATP Finals in London. Despite qualifying for this season-ending tournament 14 times, he has only participated in it eight times because of injuries. This year, he is still hoping to recover from an abdominal injury he sustained during the Paris masters to be ready for the season-ending showpiece in London.

Rafael Nadal’s injury woes

The current number one is yet to win any ATP Finals. Injuries have managed to keep him out of six ATP finals. Even this year, he is still racing against time to be 100-percent fit for the final tournament of the 2019 season.

Recently, he wrote on his Twitter account that he would be participating in the upcoming tournament. Rafael Nadal hinted that he would be travelling to London this week to kickstart his preparations for this year’s competition.

“Hello, everyone. Yesterday I had a resonance in Mallorca, and despite having a small strain in the right abdominal rectum, I will travel to London. Thursday or Friday, I will start adapting to the service. The idea is to be able to play the #atpfinals in London. Thanks for the support!” He tweeted.

He is also hoping to defend the world number one rank he is currently holding. But, the 33-year-old faces stiff competition from Novak Djokovic who is following him closely at number two. Besides, Nadal believes he can equal Roger Federer’s record of 20 won Grand Slam titles. The Spaniard is only one title shy of equaling the Swiss’s record.
