Rafael Nadal had to bow out at the brink of the Paris Masters semifinals after he sustained an abdominal injury. The shocking news came at a time when players are gearing up for the upcoming ATP Finals in London.

The current world number one withdrew from the ongoing tournament in France and sought medical attention. His withdrawal from Paris Masters meant that the race for the top spot in Tennis is still on.

At the moment, Rafa would not like to lose ATP No.1 ranking to his worthy competitor, Novak Djokovic. Notably, he promised to do whatever it takes to make sure he races against time to be fit for the ATP Finals in London.

“I hope to be ready for London. That’s the biggest goal right now. I will do all that I can do and all that’s mathematically possible to recover for it. But as you can expect today I can’t answer this question with the right position,“ he said.

Nadal’s fans can now feel relieved following the Spaniard’s latest update concerning his injury. Earlier on, there was a likelihood the 33-year-old would miss the ATP Finals in London. As already mentioned, he withdrew from the Paris Masters after sustaining an abdominal injury, which was thought to rule him out of the final tennis season’s tournament in London.

Fortunately, after, having a resonance in Mallorca, it appears that Nadal will be gracing the ATP Finals. He took to Twitter to confirm the good news. His tweet said, “Hello, everyone. Yesterday I had a resonance in Mallorca, and despite having a small strain in the right abdominal rectum, I will travel to London. Thursday or Friday, I will start adapting to the service. The idea is to be able to play the ATP finals in London. Thanks for the support.”

Nadal already a participant in the ATP Finals

The Spaniard will not only try to win ATP Finals but also try to keep his number one position in the ATP ranking. The tournament will get underway in the O2 Arena starting from 10th to 17th November. Rafa is hoping to be fit enough to participate for the event. Unfortunately, if he fails to be 100-percent fit for this tournament, his place will be taken up by Roberto Bautista Agut.
