IT’S OFFICIAL. Nadal withdraws from Shanghai for wrist injury

Rafael Nadal was expected not to play the Rolex Masters in Shanghai and finally the organization announced the withdrawal.

Nadal is well on course at ending the year as the deserving world no.1, but that will come only if he outperforms Novak Djokovic. Rafa is currently leading Djokovic of 1960 points in the year to date rankings. The Serbian sensation can bridge some of this gap if he wins Tokyo and Shanghai to pocket 1500 points give the fact that the Mallorcan will skip the entire Asian swing.

NADAL’S INJURY. Is it the wrist or the hand?

The organization revealed Nadal’s retirement with the following post:

“To our fans, it’s with a heavy heart that we announce that @RafaelNadal will be withdrawing from the 2019 Rolex Shanghai Masters due to a wrist injury. #rolexshmasters“

However, during the Laver Cup, Nadal said that he was struggling with inflammation on his left hand to said it clearly that he had no problems with his wrist. The Rolex Masters pointed at the wrist.

Probably taking some time off ahead of his wedding was the real reason for Rafa to skip the Asian Swing. Time will tell.

Ranked no.2, Nadal played his last match on the 8^th of September when he defeated Daniil Medvedev 7-5 6-3 5-7 4-6 6-4 in the final in U.S. Open to win his 84^th career title.

This year Rafael has a 47-6 win-loss record. Nadal has won 4 titles in 2019 in Rome, at the French Open, in Montreal and at the U.S. Open. Nadal was the finalist at the Australian Open.
