This is how much Federer, Nadal, Djokovic, Medvedev can win in Shanghai

The best players on the planet will play at the Shanghai ATP 1000 Masters with the winner walking away with a huge paycheck.

Federer and Nadal

The Shanghai Masters will take place from 5th October to 13th October. The tournament will have some fascinating storylines with many top stars confirmed to play at the event. The “Big Four” of Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic, and Andy Murray will play in China. Younger players like Daniil Medvedev, Dominic Thiem, and Alexander Zverev are also set to feature and will look to test the former world number ones.

PRIZE MONEY

The winner will take home $1,374,995 in prize money while the runners up will cash in $696,000 dollars. The champion will also add 1000 ranking points to his current total. Djokovic won the tournament last year and will be seeking to defend it at this year’s edition. The Serbian has won the competition four times since it started in 2009. He has reached the most finals alongside Andy Murray. Both players tied at four. Murray has won the title twice in his four attempts. He will hope for a strong performance at the event, given the quality of the opposition, as he continues his comeback after a hip surgery.

Will Nadal play in Shanghai?

Nadal’s participation at the Shanghai Masters is in doubt. The Spaniard suffered a wrist injury while playing in the Laver Cup last month. He is also preparing to wed his longtime girlfriend Xisca Perello. The wedding is set to take place on October 19th, six days after the end of the tournament. The Spaniard will improve his chances of ending the year at number one by playing at the event. The 33-year-old has a good chance of leapfrogging the Serbian at the top. Playing in Shanghai will hand the current number two a considerable advantage. He leads Djokovic in points gained this year.

Federer trying to win for 3rd time

20-time Grand Slam champion, Federer, will be aiming for his third win in Shanghai. The 38-year-old won the title in 2014 and 2017. He has won three ATP tournaments this year and reached the finals in Wimbledon.

Medvedev to beat the Big3?

Next-generation player, Daniil Medvedev, will be hoping to overcome the dominance of the “Big 3.” The Russian has been in good form heading into the tournament. He reached his first Grand Slam final at the US Open, losing to Nadal in a closely contested match up. He has been to the finals of five straight tournaments and recently won the St. Petersburg Open.
