Federer, Zverev to play exhibition in Mexico in front of RECORD crowd

The two players will face off in Mexico City on November 23. It looks like the event will see record crowds.

As both players prepare for the last few tournaments of the tennis season, Roger Federer and Alexander Zverev just set their third exhibition match in November in Mexico City. The event, dubbed “The Greatest Match,” will serve as the conclusion to Federer’s Latin American exhibition tour.

The match, which will happen on November 23 in the city’s Plaza de Toros, is expected to sell as much as 40,000 tickets. The venue is usually reserved for bullfighting events but with two superstars battling each other in Mexican soil for the first time, the stadium is an appropriate location.

Apart from Federer and Zverev, a legendary doubles match will also be played in the event. Twin brothers Bob and Mike Bryan will take on Mexican players Miguel Angel Reyes Varela and Santiago Gonzalez.

Federer and Zverev’s exhibition in Colombia and Chile

The Mexico City event will not be the only time that the German and the Swiss will face off for an exhibition. The Swiss tennis icon and the German player will also play in Santiago, Chile and Bogota, Colombia. Both events will be done in venues named Movistar Arena. The Chilean event will be on November 19 while the one in Colombia will happen in November 22.

It will be Federer’s second exhibition match in Bogota. In 2013, he already faced off with French star Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the same venue.

Federer is also scheduled to have an exhibition match with Juan Martin del Potro in Buenos Aires, Argentina’s Parque Roca stadium on November 20. This will be the Argentine’s first exhibition match in his home country since he went through a surgery to fix his fractured kneecap.

The Swiss star was also supposed to head to Japan this month for an exhibition match with Kei Nishikori. The Japanese star, however, had to pull out so he can recover from his injuries.

Zverev with Team8

Federer and Zverev have a cordial and warm relationship outside of the court. They have played against each other six times. But most importantly, the world No.6 is now in a contract with Roger’s company Team8. The company will help manage the German player’s career and training from now on.

It can be recalled that Zverev faced a lawsuit from his former agent Patricio Apey earlier this year. The player’s decision to work with Team8 is partly because he wanted to have more time to focus on his games.

It seems that Alexander is in good hands. Federer looks passionate about pushing for the younger player’s career, who he played with in the Laver Cup last month. The Swiss star even complimented Zverev’s performance, who helped seal Team Europe’s victory.
